Coge Gobi Co.,Ltd/ Areva Mongolia explored several years since 2005 and discovered uranium accumulation in the Umnud area and determined preliminary reserves and planning to conduct ISR technology test in 2010. The detailed geological exploration and ISR test results will be reported to the Mineral Resources Council of Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy. The ISR test area geology structured as fine clay layer on the top profile and below of that existing Sainshand Sandstone Formation with potential thickness which uranium mineral accumulated. The ore body average thickness fluctuates between 5-23m and distributed in 105-120 m depth form daily surface. Total area of orebody reaches 160 ha. GoGe Gobi specialists planning to conduct ISR test on this well explored area. Main parameters of ISR Test design consists from 10 injection boreholes extended 10 m from each others, 2 extraction borehole with 6 side form and 7 monitoring boreholes covering inside and outside of test area.
Existing groundwater quality of this area is not meets to drinking water standard and high content of sulfate-chlorine and some heavy metals such as Rhenium, selenium, Uranium. Average mineralization reaches 600-2500 mg/l and local nomadic peoples don not uses water of this area due to high mineralization and high contents of above mentioned toxic metals. Existing natural rates of radiation and radioactive elements content in the Plants and livestock milk determined before test commence.
Ecotrade completed Detailed Environmental Impact Assessment for this ISR test project based on previous baseline data and several ongoing monitoring since 2007. And MNET was approved DEIA Report in September 2010 and they are began their ISR test in October till to May of 2011.
In the DEIA Report indicated key affect receiving areas and environmental objects, potential impacts of proposing ISR test, mitigation measures of them, monitoring program design, frequency and environmental management plan during ISR test work.
