Zuunmod molybdenum-copper deposit area is located Huviin Har Mountain ranges in Shinejinst soum, Bayanhongor Aimag. The deposit area is located approximately 950 km to the south-west of Ulaanbaatar, 350 km to the south of Bayanhongor province center and 90 km to the south of Shinejinst soum. The deposit area and its surrounding region is one of the poorly developed and remote areas of Mongolia and the deposit area is connected to soum and province centers through earth roads. According to geomorphologic classification, the survey area and its surrounding region is described as flat plateau, depression between mountains; and hills and flat plains. The survey area and its surrounding areas are generally elevated at 1300 – 1400 m above sea level and consist of landscape with comparatively lower hills.
As to meteorological zoning, the deposit area is located in the north part of semi-desert zone of South Gobi of Altai. Climate is various and harsh, for instance summer is dry and hot and has very little precipitation in summer; and strong wind blows in spring and fall; and winter is comparatively warmer than northern part of Mongolia and it is not common that snow falls in winter. Zuunmod spring has some Gobian poplar trees around it and also woody and shrubby plants such as Tamarix, Saxaul and Reaumurea soongarica commonly occur there. However, hill and mountain tops are almost barren and plains and dry river beds have sparse shrubby vegetation.
