Zuun dalan Coal Deposit Area Environmental Baseline Survey for Tethys Mining/VALE Mongolia, 2007- 2008

A Mongolian Environmental Consulting Company, Eco-Trade LLC is performed an Environmental and Social Baseline Study to Zuun Dalan Coal Deposit Area which located in the Dalanjargalan Soum of Dornogobi Aimag for Tethys Mining LLC/ VALE/ CVRD, Brasilia. The Zuun Dalan Exploration License covers 9297 ha and it is located approximately 290 km southeast of Ulaanbaatar and approximately 15 km north of Dalanjargalan soum. The exploration license lies acting coal mining Alag tolgoi and Eldev are located neighborly at the both side of Zuun Dalan.
The environmental baseline study was focused on existing environmental and socio-economic conditions of the Zuun Dalan area. This study contains the key characteristics of the Project area’s geography, geology, hydrology,hydrogeology, soil, climate, flora, fauna and current socio-economic conditions.
The study area is nearby significant infrastructures for the project such as power line from central power system of Mongolia and an international rail line about 16.6 km from the license border. A paved road to Ulaanbaatar is available from the Choir town which is located to the north western side of 40 km from the study area.

Environmental Social Baseline Study report has been prepared to meet the requirements for screening under the Mongolian Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Procedures contented as follows:
• First part: Physical Environment (geography, geology, mineralization, climate and hydrological conditions);
• Second part: Biological Environment (soil cover, flora and fauna); and
• Third part: Socio-Economic Environment (national, regional and local levels)
